Every chapter will give you insight to make those difficult decisions as you regain control of your life.
Welcome to Divorce Wisdom
Welcome to a place where you can find the wisdom to make the decisions concerning divorce, comfort to begin the process of healing and strength to help those you love. As you navigate this complex territory of divorce you must be cautious about the many claims made in books, websites and private counseling guaranteeing a promise to save your marriage or give free and easy legal advice. Decisions concerning divorce will be guided by three distinct areas: legal requirements in your state, your mind-set and the attitude of your spouse. The only area you have any significant control is your own mind-set. There ...

September, 2008: Dear John. Dear, sweet, kind John…has dropped a bomb. An unwanted-Not necessary-The first fear I had when I was pregnant with him and learned he was a boy-Not in my plans-Bomb. Why now? We’re finally a family again. We’re all happy and enjoying each other. But…not all that unexpected when I stop crying long enough... [Read more of this review]
Several months ago Dale bought a dilapidated house in foreclosure. He’d been trying to buy it for months but there were mix-ups with the previous mortgages against the house. All finally finished and the sale closed last spring. He began remodeling it for resale. He showed it to me and we decided to remodel it for our own use. Then the banks began... John, Ashley and I go to Florida to visit family for a week. Driving home I get a call inviting us to a cook-out that evening. John and Ashley are tired and beg off so I go alone. It’s at the home of the builder, Cubby, from the investor group. Dale is there. And he asks me out to dinner the next night. Dating as an adult is entirely different... [Read more of this review]
Time has marched on. Mike’s vanished. My job has vanished. The kids and I have made a final move and this time I’m paying rent. Harvey has continued to stalk us and threaten us so I’m still determined to live anonymously. I found a small house to rent in an excellent location where John can continue in the public high school he and... [Read more of this review]
January, 2006: It’s been three months since I found Mike taking checks from the company account. I told Alan the same day but as yet, nothing has been done. To my knowledge, he’s not told anyone in the group. This is unfortunate for Dale. Mike and the high school principal’s wife, Caroline, created a big stink at a group meeting in... Things have been much more active at the office the past few months. Mike is showing up every day. Several of the investors have begun showing up periodically as well. It is not a very cohesive group. Their only commonality is the chance for profit. There are few genuine friends involved. For the most part…they are strangers. Maybe this is the... Life races yet remains stagnant. The courts are stagnant. Harvey’s non-payment of alimony grows monthly. Last month we are packing to go see grandparents at the beach. Mike calls there are issues with this house we live in. Evidently he sold it soon after we moved in last year and the new owner hasn’t been paying the mortgage. The solution... Ashley bought a car through some friends of mine. And now she’s sold it. It was a terrible car. By the sound of it, I’d think it would have been a good fit. Elderly uncle dies, had owned it since new, kept up maintenance, widowed aunt wanted someone to love it like he had. But it was a bomb. Unknown to my friends, I’m sure, but the... Nadia files a motion to compel as Harvey is refusing to provide the information for ‘Discovery.’ This I learn is a familiar tactic with her firm. File a motion for ‘Discovery’ against the other party requesting stacks and stacks of financial documentation. The request form is literally dozens of sheets of questions stapled... Harvey filed a motion to terminate child support due ‘the minor children’s refusal’ for visitation. He writes this by hand on a form from Clerk of Court. Once again it looks like a second grader filed out the form. But nonetheless, I must appear in court. That’s the unfair thing about our legal system. For a simple filing fee... Mother & Daddy sent me $2000. I made $1000. . . and it’s still not enough. I owe another $2000. Hopefully child support will come soon. Then today the attorney’s bill came. . .$2700 in one month! And Harvey still owes me $18,000!! I sent a letter about medical bills. He refused to accept deliverance. We need to go see family over the... [Read more of this review]
I am a parrot. Fuchsia, blue and gold. I have a nest. Warm, clean and soft. I soar in the rain forest watching my chicks slip gaily through the treetops laughing boldly at life returning to me for love and shelter. I am now a penguin yet I still think like a parrot. My home is cold. Life is hard, slippery ice. Quick! I must learn to swim. Quick!... [Read more of this review]
Over 2 months. Time is racing by. We’ve not been able to do anything or go anywhere. Harvey has not paid alimony since last February in full. $1000 in March. Nothing since. I’ve hired another attorney. Nadia, a young girl about 30 from a firm known for it’s aggressiveness. We go back to court soon. Harvey called June 10, left a pitiful... [Read more of this review]
Ashley & I were coming home from ball and passed the Potter’s trailer on McKay Road. Ashley, “Do you remember those people? There…isn’t that their trailer? Didn’t we buy some land? What was her name? Pat? Pam? Did Harvey have an affair with her?” Me, “Why do you ask?” Ashley, “I remember coming... [Read more of this review]
No contact from Harvey since 23rd of March. A letter with half of the alimony I’m due and threats of legal action if I didn’t contact him by April 1st. Which I do not. Ashley turned 16 in December. We have a great day. John turned 13 in April. We have another great day. No word from Harvey either day. On Friday they’re both out of... [Read more of this review]
Court is always tedious and intimidating. I really have no idea what to do, even by now, no idea what the rules are to this treacherous game. I’ve brought Ashely & John as required. Harvey has not seen them in nearly a year. He makes no effort to approach them or talk to them at all. The judge asked many questions of us both, then Harvey started... [Read more of this review]
Madge, Harvey’s mom, is not someone I would seek out as a close friend. At first meeting she’s pleasant enough but carries her feelings so on her shoulder you must handle her with kid gloves. She has had any number of hurt feelings from perceived slights by her acquaintances through the years. This makes it a very one-sided, needy relationship.... [Read more of this review]
If possible, Harvey’s become even more irrational and ballistic. We moved and he wasn’t give an official change of address from me. He contacted John’s school speaking to the headmaster. He inquired if John was still enrolled. He told them we have joint custody, accused me of spiriting his children away without telling him and putting... [Read more of this review]

The first divorce directly related to the September 11 terrorist attacks has been filed in New York. Evidently a fellow with a 103rd floor office at the World Trade Center skipped work that day to spend time with his girlfriend at her apartment--with cell phone and television turned off. At 11am he turned his cell back on which rang immediately. His hysterical wife frantically asked, "Are you OK? Where are you?" To which he calmly proclaimed, "I'm fine. I'm at work in the office, of course!"
